Bruno Fernandes reveals the Moment that caused MU to Fail

Manchester United failed to win the Premier League this season. Bruno Fernandes also revealed the moment that made MU finally give up in the title competition.

Why MU failed to Win the Premier League

Manchester United had mastered the top of the Premier League standings in January 2021. They are four points ahead of Manchester City who are in third place.

However, MU then surprisingly suffered a 1-2 defeat to Sheffield United and drew 1-1 against West Brom. Minor results that make MU lose the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, Manchester City continued to go fast. They eventually won the 2020/21 Premier League with three matches remaining.

Crucial Moment

Bruno Fernandes believes that this moment has dashed hopes of winning Manchester United.

"We are aware this season that playing against teams fighting relegation is more complicated than we imagined," Bruno Fernandes told ESPN Brazil.

"We lost four points when we were first against Sheffield United and West Brom and it was the four points that made the difference for City so they can come close and overtake us."

More Focus

For this reason, Bruno Fernandez wants his team to be more focused when fighting teams that are struggling at the bottom.

"This makes us understand that we have to be focused and aware that all the games will be difficult and it is important for us to continue to fight for the title," he continued.

"That's where we failed, especially in January, which was our worst moment when we could have extended our lead over City, which didn't happen."

"City, deservedly, passed us and were able to lead us by a great distance."

Bruno Fernandes Reiterates His Ambition at MU is To Win Trophies

Bruno Fernandes reiterated his ambition to bring Manchester United back to the trophy.

Bruno Fernandes was brought in by MU from Sporting CP on January 29, 2020. The Red Devils had to pay a dowry of 55 million euros to bring the Portuguese player to Old Trafford.

The large amount of money that MU had spent was not useless. Bruno Fernandes immediately became one of the best players in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists in all competitions this season. His impressive performance made Fernandes voted the club's best player.

Collective Trophy

This is the second time in a row Bruno Fernandes has won the award. Even so, Fernandes prefers to win collective trophies rather than individuals.

"My priority right now is to win trophies," Fernandes told ESPN Brasil.

"I think collective trophies are more important than individual trophies because here we are working for each other and if this works, it takes us to a collective trophy."

Bring MU Champion

Manchester United will face Villarreal in the Europa League final. Fernandes emphasized that he wanted to bring the Red Devils to lift the championship trophy.

"I think the club has grown a lot since before I arrived, it is in a developing phase and the players are increasingly understanding the mindset you have to have to play at a club like Man United, who want to win and win titles," he continued.

"That's what we are here for. And, of course, I feel part of that and I want to help the club develop, to win and hopefully we can grow even more to fight for more trophies."
